Electrocardiogram or the EKG is device that measures the electrical activity of the heart. The machine determines if the heart is damaged and the extent. The technician who deals with an electro gram has the task or maintaining the machine. An electrocardiogram usually gets to learn on the job. The position is not licensed by any body. However, there are community programs and technical institutions that offer advanced training. These programs run for two to four years. The basic requirements for an electrocardiogram technician are a high school diploma or its equivalent.

A financial grant is largely similar to a typical scholarship. However, grants are awarded by organizations or the government. The federal Pell grant is among the most common award given by the government.

Families who have qualified for the federal Pell grant award usually have an annual income of $21,600 each year or less.

Another grant given by the United States government is the supplemental education opportunity grant. This program is granted to needy students from families with lower income.

EKG technicians administer and read electrocardiographs of patients. Also known as an ECG tech or cardiovascular technologist, an employed EKG technician will typically have a minimum of two years of college education, such as an associate's degree in healthcare or medical assisting. Licensing/credentialing upon graduation is optional.
